AC Milan in advanced talks to sign Argentine defender

AC Milan have decided to sign a new centre back this summer and the Argentine defender is the number one target.

AC Milan have been very active on the transfer market signing a big number of players so far and more entries are expected until the end of the summer window. However, nothing has happened in the defence. The plan remains to bring in a new left-back after the sale of Fode Ballo-Toure is completed but the friendly matches have highlighted a big problem at the heart of the defence.

AC Milan have conceded goals in every match, even against opponents that play on lower tiers of their respective leagues. In particular, the form of Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori has been deeply worrying. AC Milan have decided to sign another centre back this summer, also taking into account the departure of Matteo Gabbia on loan.

MilanNews.it is reporting that Marco Pellegrino is the top transfer target of AC Milan for the centre back role. The Rossoneri are in advanced talks to sign the 21-year-old Argentine defender who possesses an Italian passport as well. Pellegrino has been a standout performer in the Argentine league with Platense.

Talks with the player have been quite positive and there is no problem regarding the personal terms. Marco Pellegrino has a contract with Platense that expires in 18 months so he is expected to move soon. Unlike some reports, acmilaninfo.com can confirm that Marco Pellegrino does not have am €8 million release clause.

Instead, €8 million is the fee that Platense are asking in order to part ways with Pellegrino. AC Milan would like to spend close to €5 million to close this deal. Platense president Sebastian Ordonez is expected to be in Italy this week to negotiate this transfer. Platense fans have been infuriated with the news that Pellegrino might soon leave and are protesting against this move. Argentine football experts believe that Pellegrino could be an important player for national team the in the near future.
